For teachers

Create lessons for your class — in your language, for your context

MEKALUMI is designed so that teachers are authors, not only users. With Creator Studio you will be able to design experiments, package them as .mekapack files and share them, even offline.

Creator Studio exists today and is still evolving. It is not publicly available yet. The steps below describe how it is meant to work.

From an idea to a lesson in children’s hands

  1. Create your own lesson

Start from something you want to teach — a lever, a circuit, a bridge — and build the lesson around an experiment.

  2. Set up the experiment

Decide which virtual parts students can use, how the experiment starts and what goal they should reach.

  3. Export a .mekapack

Save the finished lesson as one .mekapack file.

  1. Share it offline

Copy the file in any way that works where you are: a memory card, a USB cable, Bluetooth or a local network.

  2. Build a local library

Collect lessons into a library for your school, club or district, in your own language.

Creator Studio

In development

Creator Studio is the part of MEKALUMI where lessons are made. It is under active development: features are being added and refined before the public release.

Local lesson libraries

A school can keep its own collection of .mekapack lessons on one computer or phone and pass them on to students’ devices. A teacher in one town can send a good lesson to a teacher in another town, as a file.

Ideas for the classroom

  • Ask students to predict the result before they run the simulation.
  • Let groups compare different designs for the same problem.
  • Treat failures as data: what exactly went wrong, and why?
  • Connect each experiment to something in your town or region.
  • Finish with explanations: students say in their own words why the final design works.

Teach in the language children speak

Because teachers write the lessons, MEKALUMI aims to make lessons possible in the languages students actually speak at home and at school.
